As well as having all the characteristics of a typical rural branch, the line was regularly used as a shortcut for excursion and special passenger trains as well as by coke trains running between the north east and the iron works of the Furness area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Within its 96 pages, the book provides extensive coverage of the services on the line, as well as the stations, sidings and signalling. Additionally, there is a dedicated chapter covering the quarry and lime works at Sandside.
